Yep, that might be.
Though, Zed/Zet is definetly not dead outside US. India uses Zed and most of the languages in Europe uses "Zet".
India has ~1E9 inhabitants. Europe ~7,5E8 inhabitants. I'm pretty sure that outnumbers US by just over a tad Wink
