I think what you've discovered is that you've stepped into a very contentious and core issue that dates back to the great calculator wars between HP and TI.
The basic issue boils down to this: Should the result given at each step be the most accurate result to the displayed number of digits such that if a user executed each step one at a time the result would be identical, or should additional guard digits be used that potentially aid intermediate calculations but will result in a different result if executed one at a time? Also, should results be "rounded" in special cases so that the "expected" result is returned even through numerically it is "wrong"?
