82240 Rebranded
Hi:
It's been discussed before that 'back in the day', some companies had rebranded/relabelled 82240s and used them for other purposes. I have recently acquired a '82240B', SN 3653Ixxxxx (x's my typing), which has the HP logo replaced with 'OSI Security Devices'. Two major differences (from a standard 82240): 1. The socket for the AC power supply is covered. 2. It does NOT respond to external HP calculator IR signals. I tested this with both a DM42 and a HP48G; and a 'normal' 82240B. I'm surprised as this would imply that there is a different ROM code in the internal 8050 processor. ---or perhaps it's just broken??? I have not yet taken a scope to it. I have taken a pic of the 8050 and will compare with another 82240B. It would be interesting to know what type of IR signal this does respond to. The test fcn (Hold feed button during power up - and works normal. Rtns ROM code 'G'-which is the same code my ID1501xxxxx 82240B returns.) TomC |
