You do need to use Shift if a menu is active, because in that case, the unshifted arrow keys move between the menu rows (and in a single-row menu, they do nothing).

What I personally found a bit painful to watch about that segment was that he didn't seem to know that the arrow keys have auto-repeat. A former 42S owner should know that.
