Oops, that's what the comment in the code says but it isn't what's used anymore. Rather it is:

$$sinh(x) = \frac{(e^{x}-1)(e^{x}+1)}{2 e^{x}}$$

for |x| < 0.5. I suspect this version will work for large x too but haven't verified it.
