Actually, Emu71/Win is better suitable here for its higher speed.

What about other declarations, say, SHORT, REAL, COMPLEX ?

From the manuals (!):
INTEGER range is +/-99999 and is coded on 3 bytes.
SHORT range is +/-9.9999E+/-499 and is coded on 4.5 bytes.
and REAL of course on 8 bytes.

COMPLEX and SHORT COMPLEX are just 2x the REAL/SHORT types.
