Yes, this is by design, but I could implement it relatively easily (designs can change).

There's no constants yet. Complex i and j should be implemented using Unicode U+2148 and U+2149 respectively. This way they will look different on the screen and don't get mixed with identifiers. I haven't found a good symbol for 'e' yet.
