I think NXT needs to be a soft-key, for menus to work well on both menu positions without requiring a second "NXT" key or a long keypress.
I think losing one slot is no big deal.
This also makes it more portable, for example if there's a future version running on Prime hardware, there's no need for a NXT key, as you can slide the menu with touch.
