I would like to state that I am also experiencing the CK-has-stopped-working run-time error and the VC-application-has-crashed run-time error that others have experienced (notably on tablet devices), but in my case the errors are on one of my Win-10 laptops.

• Error when attempting to run the Connectivity Kit: "HP Connectivity Kit has stopped working. Windows is looking for a solution."
• Error when attempting to run the Virtual Calculator: "The application has crashed and will be restarted."
  

A few added particulars: I have two laptops on which I have installed the CK and VC, both are running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update; the CK and VC software works on my Dell XPS 15 laptop and fails on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 laptop. I attempted to repair/uninstall/re-install the VC software multiple times—with variations—no success. Having read something concerning the MS C++ Redistributable, I also reinstalled first the 2013 version and then all the others: still no success.
