Just for my own education, which of the several number formats that exist in the world is standard format? My Google searches didn't help.

The 48G/GX supports 2 number formats: 123,456,789.00 and 123.456.789,00. The mode is selected by having flag 51 cleared or set, respectively. Cleared is the default mode. The easiest way to switch modes is to go into the MODES UI (press r-shift, CST button) and then navigate the UI to the "FM," checkbox.

Right in the MODES menu: number format choice is Std (Standard), Fix, Sci, Eng.
You can't have thousand separators in Std mode
