What? Several USD or EUR per roll ?

This kind of paper is commonly used in cash registers and EC-cash terminals (in Europe, that is). Plain 57 mm thermal paper rolls can be had for about 25 EUR/USD – but that's a box with 50 (!) pcs. or 50 cents (!) per roll. What am I missing here?
