In case of Newton's method you may not need many iterations but time consuming operations like a division are used. The digit-by-digit method may use more cycles but the operations are simple and

Thanks for the heads-up. It makes me appreciate just how much work they must have done when they stuffed all those algorithms into the WP34S.
