HP38E repair, any advice welcome !
Dear All,
this is a new challenge for us. This is an HP38E, a spare unit we bought time ago. In this case, all the flat cable was compromised, and we had already repaired the battery connectors. We want to give this unit a second chance. We have recovered what we think is the connection scheme between the PSU and the motherboard. If anyone has already done this and would like to share any thought we will be more than happy to listen ! Will post results soon Take care more pics to follow in the next post ... RE: HP38E repair, any advice welcome !
Hi everyone,
we tried to proceed in replacing the damaged flat cable with a series of thin wires. We followed the scheme we posted yesterday, and after a couple of tries we were able to bring this HP38E back to life. The first attempt failed because there not an exact correspondence between the "pinout" of the PSU and the "pinout" of the motherboard. In fact the first pin left of the PSU just bring the charger cable to the PSU and is not connected to the motherboard, as the pin number 5 from left. This we failed twice because we were fooled from the fact that this pin has a trace on the motherboard but no correspondence on the PSU so we soldered all of the following with an offset of 1. That's why you will see in the picture a green wire connected to the motherboard and floating free. We removed this at the end. Chassis has been cleaned and it is in good shape although it shows some wear around the keys where the metallic face plate has worn off a little. We will probably cut the flat ribbon cable as no longer necessary, in the pictures is still attached. As always, any comment is more than welcome ! Take care !! Edoardo & Alberto |

RE: HP38E repair, any advice welcome !
By the way, from what I remember PANAMATIK (sp.) is quite an expert on repairing and building a supercharged 25C. So, who or what company is ideal for repairing Spice/Spike models?
Thank you. |
