Do you have a source for that stipulation? I don't remember HP saying anything about commercial use vs non-commercial use, but then again, it has been nearly 20 years since it was released.

That got me thinking. I know I'd heard it through the grapevine but it might have been no more than Chinese whispers by the time it got to me, so I went out looking for info.

I found this statement by Jean-Yves Avenard who was working for HP at the time. It is in response to the question, "Where as it is could download the ROM of the HP48 knowing that now it is legal..."
