Some keys stopped working
Hi, My HP Prime G1 bought on 8/29/2017 does not work when pressing the following keys on the keypad: 5, 6, (multiply key), Apps.
Also cannot get it out of CAS mode. Has something like this happened to you? Any recommendations on a fix? I have reset it using the small hole on the backside of the calculator? Thank you - Cheers! |

RE: Some keys stopped working
Hello John,
It happened to me as well a couple of months ago. I kept the Prime in my jacket for a month in order to use it whenever I had the possibility to do and it is possible that some vibrations disconnected the keyboard connector inside the calculator. I did a back up, open the display case based on a couple of YouTube videos and replugged the connector. In reality I didn’t notice that the connector was unplugged; probably it was a matter of fraction of a mm. However as soon as I did it it worked again as new. The hint came from Tim. I also strengthen the keyboard screws but I was told that the issue was the keyboard connector. Now it works like a charm again. The previous thread is here: https://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-12372.html Thanks Giancarlo |

RE: Some keys stopped working
Giancarlo,
Thank you very much for your reply. Your suggestion worked. I went to the http://www.youtube.com video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0dhnNFSGEQ - it was in French! ) and viewed how to disassemble the HP Prime without damaging it. Also like you, the two ribbon cables did not seem disconnected. The first time I tried, I wiggled the ribbon and pressed in the ribbon connectors without removing the protective clear tape over the electronics and the buttons still did not work. In the second attempt, I removed the protective clear tape and then wiggles the wires and pressed in the ribbon connectors and then functionality returned to the buttons. Again, thank you for your help. I hope the ribbon cable will stay connected - Cheers! |
