HP65 Error
Hi all,

If anyone has a working 65 and a few spare minutes, I am trying to verify an error condition.

Test #1
-------------------------------
1) Turn power on

2) Press [A] - (does 1/x) so this will divide by zero and the display will flash for the error.

3) With the display flashing, read a card. After reading, the error remains.

Trying to clear the error on the next key press, the display blanks for a second or two then the error remains whereby it will clear on the second key press.

Program memory will be cleared, but I suspect this occurs with any card read errors.

Test #2
-------------------------------
Turn the power off, then repeat steps 1, 2 and 3

With the display flashing, switch to program mode.
Try to clear the error with a key press.
The display will go off and the calculator will freeze.

Jus for info...
The PRGM/RUN switch can accidently be changed while the card is reading or writing.
Reading in this situation aborts the read but program memory is cleared.
Writing in this situation, the write seems to be aborted but the program memory is corrupted.

The 65 seems happy to read a 67 card but as expected the program memory is corrupted with "unknown" data.

I know this is an unusual way to operate the 65, but just testing.

Any help appreciated

cheers

Tony

RE: HP65 Error
I do have a working 65 and can do tests when I get back home later today.
Of course I don't want to deter anyone from doing the tests if they have a 65 handy.

RE: HP65 Error
tony,

I can confirm that tests 1 and 2 operate as described.
I didn't the mode switch from reading to writing a card also appeared to work as you describe.

I didn't try the switch from writing to reading.

I also didn't try using a 67 card in the 65.

Hi Pauli,

Thanks for the assist. It would appear the hardware doesn't really cope under these conditions, which is ok as it's unlikely to be used in that manner.

Ok, Pauli beat me to it. Is there anything else you need testing? I am home now...
