RE: Battery Life and 6030 Update
Here's another data point...

I also noticed battery life appears reduced. Moreover, I have experienced an intermittent inability to turn my Prime off. For example, after working with the calculator for 5-10 minutes, I press SHIFT-OFF. The calculator appears to reboot, i.e. I see the HP logo and x^2+y^2=1 pages and the calculator remains ON. I have to repeatedly apply the SHIFT-OFF sequence 3-4 times before the calculator appears to turn OFF (given what has been stated in this thread I'm not so sure it does). As I stated, it seems to happen intermittently.

Software Version: 2014 3 31 (6030)
Hardware Version: A
CAS Version: 1.1.0-46
Serial Number: ...

On a positive note, the online help is much better and the system is so much more stable. The update is appreciated.

Regards,
Chris

Same here. In multiple occasions I was under the impression that the ON key was "bouncing". Like I switch it off and it would switch on immediately.

I also occasionally have freezes for nor reason that I cannot repeat but can solve with On Symb (once hard reset was required).

If you keep pressing the on button when the calculator is turning off, it will turn itself on. You need to release the on button pretty fast so it doesn't turn back on.

I had a freeze by just scrolling through the saved equations on Solve app...so I have to disagree with those saying 6030 firmware it's a more stable one.

Charged last night and reset with ON-SYMB
This morning I still have 100% so it looks like it fixed it for me.

I did notice the two times I have updated firmware that this is what I have seen on the screen:

RE: Battery Life and 6030 Update
I also noticed fast battery drain and intermittent inability to turn unit off.

Rev A. Ser #7382000058004 (replacement unit for a dead Prime)

Still checking . . . performed On-Symb.

Just in case - - where would I now get the old 5447 firmware, in case I want to go back to that? It seems to have disappeared from the hp website.

[edit: also screen flickering is observable, e.g., in the list editor with long lists, when scrolling up/down].

Thanks for the info. I presume one also needs to download the "matching" conn kit?

Yes, they should match.
unfortunately it is not pssible to install an older version, if the conn kit updated himself.
(I would like to do a backup, but could not install the older conn kit.)

Same here, and I got the battery life problem too! Sad
First time I updated the firmware: 2 days ago, and yesterday it was completely drained(I think that it wasn't completely charged 2 days ago) even if it was turned off!! Charged again yesterday and today it's at 50%, even if it was always turned off.
What can we do? Sad

RE: Battery Life and 6030 Update
Hello,

There are no known issues with power. In fact, this update should improve standby life when the unit is off slightly. Specific hardware versions (everyone will have A) should not impact this at all.

In effort to track this down, I'd appreciate some data points. If you believe you are having this issue, please either PM me through the forum, or email at myname @ hp.com. Things to check/do:

1. Did you notice anything strange during the update? (errors, didn't finish flashing a file, etc)
2. What is the version reported in the C F O factory menu? To get there, hold the C F and O keys (all 3) and press a pin in the reset in the back - top of the screen has information.

Thank you.

RE: Battery Life and 6030 Update
I updated to the new version 6030 and this morning the calculator was dead and I could not turn it on without connecting the power cable and now, with the power cable while it is charging, I can not turn it off. This is a jock what the HP is doing. I think they take the customers for idiots.

RE: Battery Life and 6030 Update
Now, I wish I didn't update. I also have the battery drain problem. I charged the
Prime to 100% last night and this afternoon, after being turned of for10 hours,
the battery was down to 50%. Never had this problem with the old firmware.
I also am experiencing the turn on right after turn off issue, although it doesn't
do this consistently.

I installed the new firmware without any errors.

Software Version: 2014 3 31 (6030)
Hardware Version: A
CAS Version: 1.1.0-46

I hope there is a fix for this soon.

I hope it will get fixed soon, I have an exam next week!

RE: Battery Life and 6030 Update
I have now experienced five different times (so far) where the prime refuses to turn off. It just cycles itself back on for each attempted shift-off sequence. It seems that if I wait, or perform some functions, then, sometimes, it recovers and WILL shut off. It may be waiting for a garbage collection routine to complete before allowing a shut off(?)

Another thing that happened (once) while monitoring the battery level, during one of those refuse to shut off tantrums, my battery level indicated 75%, where it was 100% just seconds before. After I was able to realize a successful shut off, I turned it back on again, and the battery indicated 100%. During this period I was not connected to the charger or USB port. Maybe a keyboard output driver gets latched on ... just thinking verbally here.

RE: Battery Life and 6030 Update
Having the battery adapter I was able to test this futher and it seems there is a problem (but I can't confirm this precisely because I didn't checked accurate consumption of standby before updating the firmware):

So, precise standby consumption is 6 mA for new firmware.

Having this in mind, we can estimate the hours the calculator will take to drain all the battery (rated at 1500 mA, but mine 'holds' 1677 mAh empirical. I used a loss of 10% just to represent the internal battery drainage, changes in ambient humidity/temperature, etc):
[Image: Image%202014-05-29%20at%201.57.29%20PM.png]
So for some reason, idle time has been reduced from about 47-42 days to 10 in optimal conditions. (This does not explain the sudden total drainage, but this also happened with the old version so it might be a coincidence).

As reference, with the old firmware estimated idle consumption was 1,47 mA:
[Image: Image%202014-05-29%20at%201.59.18%20PM.png]

So... something changed in the idle consumption. Having in mind that when you see the FULL battery indicator, this is a value between 75% and 100%, then the real days your calculator will have remaining is about 7 days (having a battery with low wear).

Related with this, highest consumption is with Advanced graphics apps (it never goes to "idle") with 151.4 mA (@5.8V, or about 0.14A prior to the linear regulator from the supply at 6.2V). This is pretty similar to old firmware (captured at 5V, so no problems here).

Finally facts.
Thanks for your enlightening Eried.
Now I'm concerned we may actually damage batteries or at least dramatically shorten their life cycle.

RE: Battery Life and 6030 Update
I have the same issue.
Before the update it was normal, battery last for weeks with light usage.
I did the update having a fully charged battery, and now the cal is dead in less than 24 hours without being used at all.
This is really serious.
I wish I didn't updated the damn thing as soon as I saw the firmware files available for download.

Have you tried doing the On+Symb reset to see if it helps?
I wonder if it is tied to one of the graphics-centric Apps (some process that keeps running after running one of these Apps?)
