Get yourself a copy (electronic or physical, up to you) of the HP-42S manual. This is covered in it.

There are only 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

how do you unassign it from the custom menu and unload it? i can do it, but i'd have to clear the state and populate the custom menu all over again. tks, /guy

To un-assign a program from an assigned CST key:

1. Press [shift] [CONF] to access the CONF mode
2. Press the key (A..P) that you want to un-assign (which has the program name you want to remove)
3. Press [<-] to erase all the letters in the program name until it's clear
4. Press [R/S] to save the change
5. Press [<-] to exit the CONF mode

Once unassigned, you can then use CLP to delete the program (if that is what you want).

thank you very much! i appreciate it. when i got my dm42 i overloaded myself trying to learn all the things i needed and i sort of burned out and took a year off it to recover and am now making another run at it. Smile

at least i found the new persistent custom menu capability waiting for me and that had nearly made it a brand new calculator. still haven't found where it saves the custom menu items so that i could restore them when i have to restore a state--any idea why the save state doesn't save the custom menu? tks, /guy
