Rugged Case for HP-71B
As part of my adult continuing education, I'm know the new owner of a gently used HP-71B. I've already pulled down the most excellent HP-71B and HP-IL Compendiums.

I'd like to take this computer with me, but I fear a soft case, might not give it the protection it needs and deserves. I know from the HP-71B Compendium a hard/rugged case was created, but until I find one of those, has anyone found anything that works well for them, that is currently available?

RE: Rugged Case for HP-71B
I've never seen a hard case for the 71, other than the environmental cases. This price list states that one will be available in spring of 1984, but was it?

RE: Rugged Case for HP-71B
Yes, a hard case for the 71B was sold through EduCalc, etc. but HP never released an HP Branded one. One some rare occasions, HP sold 3rd party products and gave them an HP part number (best known case is the HP-42S QRG created by REX Smith, which bears HP p/n 92222E) so I guess it's possible that's what is in the price list Dave shared.

The 71B hard case is made of light-colored (blonde) leather, with a flip-top secured by a steel buckle, and was made by the same company that made a much more commonly seen and similar looking case for the 41C. I'll look for the company in the EduCalc catalogs in Jake's PPC Archive and update this if I can find it.

Found it (see below), but no company name I'm afraid. (Jake's PPC Archive collection is soo handy for things like this...)

I have one, but it is currently buried too deep to photograph, but it isn't for sale, so probably no matter. I guess it's rare as I've only seen one other one on eBay in a lot of years of looking there.

I use a PELI 1060, for many years. I am happy with it.

That's a really nice case. Less than $25 on Amazon.

The friend here on the forum—I think his forum name is KeithB—got me into the HP-71 nearly 35 years ago. He had one, and one time when I was with him, he pulled his out of his attache case and the memory was lost. I don't remember if it did an INIT: 3 or what. Apparently it had happened to him before, and he said he figured it was from keys getting pressed in the attache case. After I got mine and it happened to me a couple of times, remembering his theory, I had a woodworker friend make me a little box to put the soft case in, roomy enough for the case with all the QRGs and keyboard overlays as well. That was nearly 30 years ago and I have never had the problem since then. Here's a picture of it.

Thank you Mr. Frederickson, that was exactly the kind of information I was looking for and it looks like a great fit!

I actually recently purchased one of the hard cases for my HP-41, I was AMAZED when I got it, the leather is thick and hard, just like Armor.

I see it on Amazon but, at that price, I also want a calculator within!
Based on color, from €74.48 to €113.99
