Great stuff...the future looks bright to me!

The removal of the serial number is interesting, but probably warranted. I have tried to register both my HP 35s and my HP Prime on HP's website to activate the warranty, and both times I didn't even get a confirmation email or any indication that anything happened. Removing the number entirely just bypasses this and probably keeps the calculator cost lower.

As for screws to open battery compartments, I think it's a good idea. After all, if the batteries on the 12C last 30+ years anyway, you might as well keep them securely in place. Smile

We won't have anymore an idea of when they were manufactured so, if an error find its way in a non upgradeable ROM, you won't be able to track those calculators and when fixed ones are available.
All in all I think it's a bad idea.

These are not the LR/SR44 models...

If one just needs to identify what kind of revision a particular calculator belongs to, only a revision identifier updated for each new change is really necessary. Date/time codes can also identify when a calculator was manufactured, generally with a precision of a week or a month.

(Not advocating for or against serial numbers here, just pointing out facts)

On the outer packaging, right?

BTW: I understand this cannot be the main concern of the manufacturer, but good luck with used models...

What led to having screws and keys to open battery compartments? Can standard screwdrivers work or are these specialized? Are the cases going to be adjusted to include the door screws; if not, there is a chance that the screwdrivers would be lost. Thanks.

OT: I like to see the HP 27S return (27SII+) with it's memory increased to 17bII+.

Hello Eddie,

there is a new regulation in Australia which says:
• battery compartments are secured with a screw or similar fastener and not accessible without the use of a tool
• button/coin batteries are not accessible without the use of a tool unless at least 2 independent movements have been applied simultaneously to the battery compartment.

It is a protection for little children.

The standard screwdriver will work. The screw is captive so you don't have to be worried that it will get lost.

RE: Updated models of 10bII+, 12 C, 12C Plat & 17bII+.
Regarding the 17bII+ specifically: the LCD looks just like the traditional one, which also looks just like the 42s LCD.

However, how is it internally? Is it just like the old one, connected with 2 rubber bars? Or is it like the 35s, using the nasty hot glued ribbon cable?

My hope is that this LCD was just like the old one, providing a source of LCDs to fix damaged 42s machines.

Massimo,
I had never seen the "official video" before you posted it.
(I don't care if I ever see it again.)
If I'd known of that video back then,
I probably never would have liked the song!

Compared with the 70's, Yes, It were.

Compared with the 21st century, it was like renaissance.

Most of the dross from the 1980s has been long forgotten. Only (or at least mostly) the strongest survive! [Author shudders at remembrance of Joe Dolce's "Shaddap You Face" from 1980/81.]

I sure hope they fixed the button issues on the 17bii+. I had two of them (newest silver ones), these were the only calculators I ever owned where I had numbers occasionally not register. So disappointing, having had the older “pioneer” version of the 17bii+ for many years and loving it.

Was there actually an update to these models? Has anyone seen them in real life? I’m curious if the fixed the issues with the 17bii+ buttons.
