Canon RQ-1, Combined Calculator and Radio.
Has anyone seen the Canon RQ-1? It seems to be a Calculator with an FM/AM radio built in!
I think its pretty cool, and here is a picture of it:

Very cool! That reminds me of the Casio VL-1 music keyboard. It combined a calculator, a monophonic synthesizer, and sequencer. I remember when my girlfriend (now wife) received one as a gift in the early 80s. I think I played with it more back then than she did Smile

RE: Canon RQ-1, Combined Calculator and Radio.
I have one. Mine is the version 3 model; which has a silver colored body.

There were 3 models, the only difference from the outside seems to be the color of the body: Version 1-black Version 2-brown Version 3-silver

Have no idea if there are any internal differences. Likely not, as they are exactly the same size and weight according to:
http://www.calcuseum.com

Go to the Textual Database and look for the model.

Some calculators from Casio with built-in radio:

Also interesting is the smaller version of the VL-1:

RE: Canon RQ-1, Combined Calculator and Radio.
I scanned the instructions for the RQ-1.

Its not bad, but sorta so-so, as the original manual isn't top quality, but its perfectly readable. The manual is physically small, so you may want to zoom in on it.

It is about 18MB. If you PM me I can give you the wetransfer.com link to the file. Which will remain there about 30 days then automatically disappear.

Or if you want give me your e-mail and I'll try to directly e-mail to it. I'm pretty sure my e-mail can send a file that size.

If anyone has a RQ-2, the instructions can be used for it as well. The RQ-2 is physically different and one (2?) keys have different markings, but one can figure it out by looking at it.

FYI, if anyone is interested.

RE: Canon RQ-1, Combined Calculator and Radio.
After thinking about it, don't recall any restrictions about posting links to manuals other than HP ones. The link for the RQ-1 manual is (long):

https://wetransfer.com/downloads/4e26278...509/fefb72

wetransfer is a freebee thing, doesn't require an account. originally heard about it from Serge Devidts (calcuseum); use it to send him stuff time to time. Other than that, don't know anything about the service.
