12C Desktop Equivalent
I am new to this forum and have tried to search for the answer to this question, but have been unable to find anything; so, I apologize in advance if I am asking a question with a well-known answer.
I am wondering if there is or was a desktop equivalent of the HP12C? Or something similar? Thank you very much. |

RE: 12C Desktop Equivalent
In July of 1977, HP introduced the HP-92 Desktop Financial Calculator, see here:
https://www.hpmuseum.org/hp92.htm This did not follow the 12C, it actually preceded it by more than 4 years. And although the HP-70, -80, -22 and -27 Financial models appeared before this, the 92 had an improved solver and I believe was the first financial model to include depreciation by various models. Pretty scarce these days, but they do appear on eBay, etc. from time to time, though never cheap. --Bob Prosperi |

Thank you, Bob. I just googled the model 92 and it looks very interesting. I appreciate your response very much.

RE: 12C Desktop Equivalent
Do a search for "Victor V12 calculator". It's not a great deal bigger than a 12C but it has an angled display so easier to use on the desktop. It also runs off two AAA batteries so expect the Universe to run out of heat before they need replacing. :-)

As Bob mentioned, the HP-92 is really nice financial model that is similar in several ways to the HP-12C. The October 1977 edition of HP Journal has a nice article on the HP-92. HP Journal magazine - Oct 1977 - HP-92 Printing Desktop Financial Calculator A very nice (Windows) emulator for the HP-92 is available at the http://www.teenix.org website. HP-92 Calculator Emulator software (Windows) The HP-92 Owner's Handbook is available here: HP-92 Financial Calculator Owner's Handbook As a side note, Dr. William Kahan worked on some of the financial algorithms for the HP-27, HP-92 and HP-12C. He had a lot to say about how well the HP-92 worked. He also strongly disagreed with the initial price that marketing decided they could charge for this model. His work with the HP-92 starts on page 149 of the following interview from 2005. Interview with Dr. William Kahan - August 2005 |

I used to post that address for the Dr Kahan 2005 interview but for some reason not everyone can access that site. I can always access that site but I know there are at least several people that can’t. |

Ah! An unexpected bump in the road - my second port of call is usually to use the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine as a sort of proxy:
