Seems nobody came across that yet:
What bothers me when browsing a particular thread in threaded mode, « Next Oldest | Next Newest » is of no help since it beams me around the whole forum instead of stepping through said thread I'm interested in. Is it really meant to operate this way?? |

Yes, they do the same thing in linear mode too. Those links are for thread navigation, not post navigation. Post navigation consists of scrolling in linear mode or the "Messages In This Thread" box in threaded mode.
