One neat thing about bringing up the engineering display mode to check out a result is that the left/right rocker buttons let one step through whatever one’s preference is, be it 10^3, 10^6, 10^-9, any multiple of 10^3.

One can permanently be in engineering mode by going into settings. Numbers are input as in normal mode, but displayed in engineering fashion.

That's the big negative change in this calculator, there are no toggle keys anymore. You have to go to settings and change the modes all the time. Extremely time consuming and not user friendly. |

Another thing I noticed, it's a bug that already existed on the 991EX:
In complex mode, after executing an operation, it is not possible to go back using the arrow keys to navigate and edit the operation. You have to re-enter everything again. Can anyone replicate? |

After completing an operation, I can apply the up arrow once, and get to original entry, and can use the left or right arrows to put the cursor where I wish to edit…

Bug Casio 991CW ?
Wrong answer on 991CW but 991EX gets it right.
In mathI/MathO mode 2-1 EXE....ouput =1 /2 EXE......output =1/2 SHIFT EXE.....convert to approx gives 0.25 but it should be 0.5 This happens with other numbers too and a reset makes no difference. However, entering 1/2, EXE and then SHIFT EXE does give 0.5. |

So they changed SHIFT EXE to evaluate the expression like EXE does, rather than merely display the current result in a different format. So to get a decimal value one must avoid SHIFT EXE, which is odd. I am a mathematics teacher and I have informed my students about this and advised them to avoid buying the 991 CW altogether, instead buy the 991EX.
CASIO should address this problem. |

Just my 2c. Maybe the target audience of the CW is students (high school and maybe some level of college [although I can’t see what level of college students would benefit from the CW]). That might explain why the scientists, engineers, and others and us here at MoHPC would find the CW severely lacking.
BUT, if Casio is calling this CW the flagship, I seriously wonder what direction Casio is going in. |
