49g+/50g Replacement Case
Years ago, I bought a 49g+ and a 50g calculator. They both came with a very nice black leather-like plastic case.
I notice now that the black plastic case coating appears to be deteriorating (flaking off or spots with black rubbing off). Has anyone found a good-fitting replacement case for the 49g+/50g? I've only found one possible replacement case on Amazon and it doesn't appear to be great.. |

All of my 49g+/50g cases like yours have likewise deteriorated. You could get an exact hp replacement at

Samson Cables makes their own similar looking version https://samsoncables.com/catalog/prodDet...rod_ID=523 that BruceH mentioned. I'm very curious if these eventually develop the same problem. The last 50g I bought came with this case https://samsoncables.com/catalog/prodDet...rod_ID=449 and I have been extremely pleased with it. After years of use it is still in great shape. Samson Cables also makes a similar case https://samsoncables.com/catalog/prodDet...rod_ID=524 I'd love to know if this case holds up as well as the hp one. I ordered the -523 cases from Samson Cables and they arrived today.

I have two 50g's, one that came with the 396 "Pleather" case and one that came with the 449 ballistic nylon case. I can similarly report that the Pleather one is deteriorating badly while the nylon one is still in fine shape. The nylon case also seems to provide better protection.

My HP48SX's original nylon case is still in fine condition[1] whereas the 50G leather-like case 'only' lasted 15-years before flaking badly. The Samson Cables 523 replacement is 3 years old now and holding up well - no flaking and no signs of wear on the bend of the flap due to opening and closing. [1] Bought new in 1990-something when first launched, although it doesn't get used nearly as much any more. |

It is suited to the 50g according to the specifications. It’s certainly less protective than the nylon case, but I like the look. I might be tempted to buy one. Jean-Charles |
