Repairing the HP-42S LCD from a donor HP-17B
I received an HP-42S from a family member. The LCD screen is leaking black ink in various places. Everything else seems to work. It passes the self-test, including the KBD test. The 42S is one of my favorite calculators, I would like to fix it if I can.

As I understand from Pioneer Observational Internals, there were 2 different LCD panels used on the 42S. Mine (serial# 30xx, made in 1990?) seems to be the older model, with the flat bezel. From various photos on eBay, the HP-17B seems to use the older LCD, and the HP-17BII uses the newer LCD.

Has anyone successfully repaired an older 42S LCD with a donor 17B LCD? I have seen posts mentioning a donor 17BII, I have not seen one mentioning a 17B.

I didn't know that they use the same LCD assembly.

HP-12C Gold / HP-12C Platinum
