The HP82162 is HPIL.
The HP48 is RS232.. |

Hello!

Google finds articles about how to make the connection using an RS232 to HP-IL converter but first you have to find one of these (good luck!) and second you need to get it working (even more good luck...). The 82164A HP-IL to serial interface would have to be configured, and told to talk on HP-IL, and that can't be made to happen from the serial side, so you would still need another calculator or controller with an HP-IL interface to do that configuration at every power-up. |

W&W once made a small number of HP-IL to serial interfaces, especially for users of the HP-IL devices, so they could at least save their data from the HP-41 or HP-71B world to the HP 48 world. This was accomplished by a special HP 48 library from W&W which could control the interface. The library implemented the basic HP-IL functions. Performance of the interface & software was rather poor, but sufficient for the purpose. -- Ray |
