Need help identifying Rockwell chip
I took apart a Atari game cartridge for Atari 8 bit computers (Jungle Hunt) to see how it was built with the intention of making my own cartridges using PCB's from PCBWAY and Atari BIN files (if I can find any!).
In the attached photo, the chip on the left is the Rockwell chip in question. I can't find any information on the internet about the chip. I'd like to know what it is and what it does. Does anyone happen to know? Thank you! Joe |

RE: Need help identifying Rockwell chip
Which atari is it for?
The Altirra emulator has a lot of details of atari hardware. The rom can be bank switched so I suspect that ic does the cartridge control functions. As there's an emulator that works, it should be possible to build a cartridge controller to perform that function on your replica cartridge. |

RE: Need help identifying Rockwell chip
It's for use in a Atari 400/600/800 computer.
I'll take a look at the Altirra emulator information. A member on the Atari forum believes that it's just another 8K EPROM since the game that is on the cartridge (Jungle Hunt) is a 16K game, and it is probably spread across two EPROMs with different addresses used in the code. I'm going to desolder the EPROMs and read them to see what is on them. I have an adapter that allows me to read these older ROMS in my EPROM reader/burner. But first I want to map out the chip pins to the edge connectors and the two on board 104 resistors for later reference. Thank you! Joe |

RE: Need help identifying Rockwell chip
The PCB traces tend to imply a bus so likely a 2nd ROM.
A1 HP-15C (2234A02xxx), HP-16C (2403A02xxx), HP-15C CE (9CJ323-03xxx), HP-20S (2844A16xxx), HP-12C+ (9CJ251) |
