HP19C repairing
Hi,
I have acquired a nice working HP19C from a German surveying company. It is printing, and calculating, no corrosion. There was a mod made by them to fit the calc in a pod, so it can be powered externally. They added an AMP plug or such.

But this mod damaged the bottom case and the original power plug was removed.

Actually i am charging the battery externally.

I want to revert this mod.

So has anyone spare parts (a plug or a case) for sale?

Ralf

This is the condition:

RE: HP19C repairing
Nice find Ralf!! And you're somewhat fortunate as this power connector was used on more HP calculator devices than any other type. Among others, it was used on these devices:

10A, 19C, 91, 92, 97, 75C, 71B, 82143, 82161, 82162, all the HP-IL interfaces, 9114, 2225x, etc.

One possible cheap source, if no one has such a part, is to buy an old, dead 41C rechargeable battery pack and scavenge the connector parts, as this used the same power adapter as the 19C.

Good luck and please share your success story once completed!

RE: HP19C repairing
Thank you Bob,
i have to go in my attic, there is a big chance of finding HP82143 printer parts.
An old HP41 battery pack should be there as well.

Re the bottom case,

As I'm away from my 19C, I can't check myself :

Can anyone confirm the HP-10A bottom case pictured through the link below is/isn't the same as the 19C bottom case (barring the label) ?

Bottom case 1

Bottom case 2

RE: HP19C repairing
The case looks very similar, i think they are the same. Position of the printer mount are correct.

I fixed my problem and took a 82143 printer connector. There are two versions, it has to be the old one, the newer version is bigger and a part of the bottom case.
I had to modify it a bit in height and glued it with epoxy in place, since there are no posts anymore to fix the connector. :-)
The contacts are a bit longer.

I then repaired the case with epxoy (more cosmetic) and made an internal little cover for dust protection from an old 5.25 floppy disk.

And it works fine now.
Thank you Bob for the hint!

Here is a picture of the case before repairing with epoxy:

RE: HP19C repairing
Well done Ralf, another 19C rescued and back among the relatively few that are still operating today.

Wile my wife loves watching dog rescue shows on TV, I love calculator rescue stories. Still no TV show on this yet, but we'll keep at it until it becomes popular enough...
