Graph cursor

Maybe a silly question, but searching hasn't really given me a definitive answer. When we plot we can set the X & Y inc for numeric view which is nice, so why can't that translate to the cursor? It just seems logical to set the increment then move the cursor from point to point, snapping at exact matches where they happen to exist.

As it stands, at my learning level of maths, the cursor doesn't actually tell me anything of use. Happy to hear any thoughts, I'm sure someone will be able to clarify in a sentence or two.
