There are two ways to tell the new version of the 12C or 10bII+.

By serial number:
1. NEW 10BII+ starts with “PHA”
2. NEW 12C starts with “PHA” or “9CJ” or “7CD” or “3CD”

Do the serial numbers have more meaning to them; are there different codes for models sold in different part of the world?

So does this mean that only the 12C and 10BII+ were updated. But the 12C Platinum wasn't updated?

Another question: How do the speeds of the new12C compare with the Platinum?

thomas

The codes represent the various factories. Its unlikely HP would reveal specifics, but its a safe bet they're in China.

The 30th Ann 12C ran about 50 times faster than the 25th Ann 12CP. I think the 12CP h/w has remain unchanged, while the 12C changed to a new SOC/CPU because the one used prior was discontinued.

At HHC, I believe Cyrille said the new CPU is roughly the same performance as the prior one, but hopefully someone will get one and post benchmark results here.

I wonder if they might be persuaded to sell us some of these cables? I assume they use them for the calcs initial programming?

I just found a source for 6 pin cables:

Wow, 79 Euros each. I'll take two.

I know. So it seems that it's not some wierd HP invention.

But can anyone confirm the dimensions?

I would already have one of I had known this a few months ago. And so on the 34s I had to experiment with soldering and desoldering and finally I soldered an extra connector to one as somewhere in the forums suggested but it's a bit sticking out of the case..

Before buying one, check the dimensions: the pads have a 2mm pitch while this cable has a 1.27mm pitch.

Cable assemblies in sample quantities can be had from Samtec for FREE. Just add some pogo pins and a clip can be made from a $2 sheet of brass from the local hobby shop.

No soldering required.

The difference in packaging is of the serial numbers do not start with CNA (old version), and the CNA stickers are at the top of the package, whereas the new versions the start with:

“PHA” or “9CJ” or “7CD” or “3C"

and the new ones are toward the bottom of the box near the bar code.
Just got a 12C.
Serial 7CD537017X
FW date: 2012-04-03
Copyright 2008 hp
So, it looks like the Serial 7CD also have the AT91SAM7L128 processor.

Hi would you mind answering if possible:
Is there any difference of the button feel between between:
12c
25 yrs plat anniv edition and
30 yrs anniv
and 2015 latest CPU edition?

lastly:
Will there be a 35yr limited anniv edition this year??

RE: Is the 12C SDK still available?
Hello,

Your home made cable is a thing of beauty! Great job!

Note that the new 10BII+ and 12C do have normally a solder spot for a USB connector. So if your aim is truly development, you can simply do a clean cut in the plastic casing and solder a USB connector. The connector spot is on the PCB edge to allow this.

Cyrille

Although I work for the HP calculator group, the views and opinions I post here are my own. I do not speak for HP.

RE: Is the 12C SDK still available?
Thought this might be the best place to ask:
I have a 12C with the 2009-07-02 firmware and the associated SST bug, I would like to upgrade to the most recent bug-free version.

Is there anywhere i can download this?
Thanks.

RE: Is the 12C SDK still available?
I realise this thread is ancient, but I came across it whilst looking to understand which 12Cs have the connector, and I haven't seen in it the actual source of the 6-pin pogo connector.

It's more generally known as tag-connect and although they're not cheap, they're cheaper than Segger.

https://www.tag-connect.com/product-cate...cts/cables

Not that these (and the segger one) have 3 tooling pins. These were the only location parts originally used by tag-connect but some versions later seem to have added latches to hold them in place. Their original intention was for production programming where the connection was quite brief : they've later been used for debug where it's convenient to clip them. HP seem to use the latches but not the location pins.

It's proably pretty easy nowadays to 3d-print a suitable block to hold generic pogo pins though the latches may be a bit too tiny for success.

I use Tag Connect(tm) cables all the time for embedded work, and they're great, but that IS NOT what the HP calculators have. The Segger isn't what the HP calculators have. It is also not the Adafruit pogo connector someone else mentioned. HP uses an entirely CUSTOM-DESIGNED pogo connector assembly, which is not commercially available ANYWHERE.

Again, IT DOES NOT EXIST AS A COMMERCIAL PRODUCT. Abosolutely no off-the-shelf pogo connector assembly you can buy is correct for the HP calculators.

Katie Wasserman posted an excellent thread on how to make a mating connector yourself:
https://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap...ead=229916

Note that the newer calculators use different wiring for the connector, as they use USB rather than 3.3V CMOS async serial, but the physcial connector is the same, so the mechanical portion of Katie's thread is still applicable. Katie provided the wiring information for the newer calculators earlier in this thread.

Thanks ! I could see the Segger cable was the tag-connect but I didn't realise that was wrong too.

The big problem is that the HP pitch is 2.0mm, while Tag-Connect is 1.27mm (50mil). The Tag-Connect always has the locator pins, though you could cut them off. The optional Tag-Connect latching legs (not present on "-NL" suffix Tag-Connect products) are not at all similar to the HP retention mechanicals.

I haven't yet made a cable assembly by Katie's method, but it looks like it should be fairly easy.
