The Raspberry Pi might be worth considering:

Pro: It supports many languages, including Scratch for youngsters and the popular Python.
It also comes with Mathematica.
The board itself is only about £40.

Con: It is not a self-contained package like a calculator or laptop.
Add case, usb powerpack, touchscreen and keyboard/mouse, and it is no longer so cheap or convenient.

If you want microPython, the French Casio CG50 calculator apparently implements that but foreign equivalents do not.
