HP41 Emulator card for HP48 series
Are these rare? I have been looking for one for awhile with no luck... did see one on eBay about a year ago but was foolish and didn't purchase but it was I believe around $100. Any pointers?
Thanks! HP-28S (1988 US model), DM41X (2020) |

RE: HP41 Emulator card for HP48 series
Yes. They are rare and something to know: these cards run only in a SX (not the GX).
Also, it seems to be more a "simulator" than a real emulator. A better alternative could be HP41X. |

RE: HP41 Emulator card for HP48 series
Oh, I suspected it was the SX only, thanks for confirming!
If only the SX had a decent display.... or it was easy to swap with the later Black GX's. HP-28S (1988 US model), DM41X (2020) |

RE: HP41 Emulator card for HP48 series
Small correction: There is a version for the GX, but only ONE unique card (as I know).....

IOW the FOCAL bytecode is the same on all three mentionned platforms. -- Ray |

RE: HP41 Emulator card for HP48 series
Thanks for these detailed notes Raymond. Was the GX version marketed under the same model number and how can one tell which version will work on the GX (or is it both SX and GX)?
I have a card that reports "0E" for the response to the VERS41 command in the Ctl41 Library. Seems to be SX only. Copyright on the card is Zengrange, 1990. --Bob Prosperi |

RE: HP41 Emulator card for HP48 series
The GX version was never marketed through HP, and that GX version I mentionned was not made by Zengrange nor by the original author of the Zengrange code.
The GX version I'm talking about is a single library, has a much faster UI than the Zengrange version, doesn't use absolute addressing, and thus can be stored anywhere in port 0 or 1 . -- Ray |

RE: HP41 Emulator card for HP48 series
Hi Raymond,
So how can we obtain the GX version (just asking a leading question)? Already have the card for the SX version but would be interested in the GX version as an alternative. Thanks, Michael |

I agree, I'd like to see this version if it could be shared. The faster UI plus extra GX speed should make it more natural to use. Did someone hack the original version with GX and UI speedup changes or was this a complete re-write? Either way, seems like quite an extraordinary accomplishment, the author was clearly quite skilled. --Bob Prosperi |

I just received a 48SX with a HP41 Emulator card inside. It was not advertised as such but I spotted the emulator overlay on the keyboard. The VERS41 reports "0A" for the emulator card, and the 48SX rom version is D (s/n 3019A) The entire string returned by VERS41 is: Code: 0A 900928 0133 seems to be the date and time of the rev 0A release, which is aligned with the manual Edition 1 October 1990. |
