Gallery: The HP Prime PNG/JPG Image Viewer [UPDATED V2.3.0 07-08-17] - mandresve - 05-18-2015 03:09 PM

Hello everyone. For some time my interest has turned to visualize images in the HP Prime... and finally here, the liberty from the Websites or others conversion tools!!

This application called "Gallery" offers the ability to view PNG and JPG files natively and directly into the calculator. Just follow the instructions to make the program work.

How to install this app:
  • Make sure that you are up-to-date and have at least SW/FW Version 10077 - 20160414 that are available HERE!
  • Copy the Gallery.hpappdir folder into your My Documents\HP Connectivity Kit\Content folder on your PC.
  • Run the Connectivity Kit and connect your calculator to your PC (or optionally run the virtual emulator).
  • Drag the Gallery.hpappdir folder on the left pane of the connectivity kit window, just inside "Application Library" category and drop it there.
  • To load images into Gallery please open "Gallery.hpappdir" folder and copy all the images in that location. Then, drag the whole folder and drop it inside the "Application Library" of the HP Prime. That's all.

TIP: Compress PNG or JPG before upload is a good idea. Click to Compress Here!
TIP: Pictures with 320*240 of size and 8 bit bit-depht works better.
TIP: Any Image Size is supported.

How to use this app:
  • Press [VIEW] to access the Menu.
  • To Exit from image Gallery, press [ON]
  • To Invert Colors press [+/-]
  • To Blank Screen (blackout) press [DEL]
  • To Browse between images, use the D-Pad.
  • Use the Touchscreen to move - zoom or use the keyboard. Zoom: [+] or [-], Move: [4],[8],[6],[2].
  • To Restore Zoom/Pan to Default press [5]
  • To Hide Gallery, press [HOME]

Hello mandresve!

I've tried to upload a couple of .png images into the "files" folder of your App and it is not accepting any of them. they are: 320 x 240 pixels. as you recommend.

RE: Gallery: The HP Prime PNG Image Viewer - Mic - 05-18-2015 04:01 PM

How can you directly run a program by launching the app ?

Hi Spybot,
Try to Right Click on the "Files" folder inside Gallery, then select "Add File". Press "Save" on the Connectivity Kit and check again.

Well done mandresve!

Unfortunately the test image I added in the CK just got stuck in the tree and didn't show up on the calc. Could not delete image from tree and had to remove entire app branch to remove the failed image.

Still promising for further enhancements and features.

Of course it will, I am committed to the development of Gallery until the end. At the moment I'm a little busy with my studies (meaning "a little" as much, lol), but I try to provide regular updates.

Thanks for the support to everyone. Big Grin

I've created my .hpappprgm but it doesn't appear in my program list on the emulator Sad

When you add a file in the connkit it doesn't automatically save it to the calc. I didn't want it to try sending the whole app every time you added a file. At the moment, you need to open the app editor, make a text change somewhere which will flag the app as needing a "Save". Then when you hit save it will send the app. If you didn't tweak the app data at all, your files weren't sent along and nothing happened when you hit save.

RE: Gallery: The HP Prime PNG Image Viewer [UPDATED V1.0.2] - Spybot - 05-18-2015 11:44 PM

I finally got to see my images in your App... It is cool.... much more stable.
Congratulations mandresve.
When using the emulator, I also think you should tell people to remember to right-click the Gallery App and send it to Class, after uploading their images. This cost me a bit of time to figure it out.

Wow, after a good nights sleep I wake up to a useful version and will actually use it today to view saved screens from my DSO.

Big thumbs up!

It would be nice to view icons as actual size images. Using the zoom (+/-) buttons causes the icon image aspect ratio to distort when zooming out.

Hi John,
Thanks for the suggestion. Currently I'm working in image transformations to detect edges and select automatically aspect ratios (to avoid aberrations) because for now in the V1.0.6, aspect ratios are configured to be multipliers or divisors of 320*240 (Native Prime Screen Resolution). It will be available soon. Smile
