Joint statement from the WP43 developers and the C43 team
The WP43 developers must unfortunately announce that SwissMicros no longer intend to produce a WP43 calculator. The decision has been made by SwissMicros to end the collaboration due to past and recent behaviours [edit by moderator] causing the concern that the WP43 project could negatively impact the reputation of SwissMicros.
The majority of the WP43 developers (Martin, Pauli, and Ben) have asked to join the C43 team and this has been accepted. No further development work will be done on WP43 directly by the combined C43 team who will instead increase their effort towards C43. There will undoubtedly be a lot of questions but please be patient in waiting for answers as those involved work out what this means for their projects. Rest assured that we are dedicated to continue to bring C43 to full production quality. |

RE: Joint statement from the WP43 developers and the C43 team
So I will end up (when it will be finally delivered) with a calculator with no update path.
Nice! :( Greetings, Massimo -+×÷ ↔ left is right and right is wrong |

It would be great if someone could summarize what events lead to this situation for people like me who were not involved in previous discussions.

You'll end up with a pre-production prototype for a device that was never built. Such units are extremely collectable. Think of it as being like a 95C. Yeah, not much consolation. Pauli |

RE: Joint statement from the WP43 developers and the C43 team
The C43 team has been working on documentation that could be used as an addendum to Walter's masterpieces (the OM and RM manuals). We now intend to develop an online and perhaps an on board help system as well as a basic user manual. The new manual will be fully open source and anyone from the community wanting to help with documentation will be welcome to contribute.

There is additional discussion of this on the SwissMicros forum.

RE: Joint statement from the WP43 developers and the C43 team
I won't go into much detail about the lead up. It's honestly not that interesting.
Negotiations with SM have been difficult. Both sides had demands that were immovable. Mostly, it was small points. Having the name WP 43 instead of DM 43 or WP 43S. The choice of symbol on the division key almost torpedoed everything. These were worked through and compromises made by all parties. Then there was an event at Allschwil which I've only heard about third hand and thus will not comment further. The final sticking point was SM wanting to avoid potential reputation damage [ edit by moderator]. |

RE: Joint statement from the WP43 developers and the C43 team
I would like to ask that since [edit here] not all involved in this cahnge are participants on this forum, that any references to [edit] individuals be measured or better yet, not made at all.
Discussions can be made on the SM forum if necessary. Not good to reference someone when they are not able to defend themselves. Please. Gene |

Pardon my thumping ignorance. I've seen fleeting references to the WP43S project but nothing of C43. RE: Joint statement from the WP43 developers and the C43 team
C43 is a fork of WP43, created by Jaco Mostert, originally with the goal of accessing the WP43 feature set using the existing keyboard of the DM42 (existing keys with new surrounding bezel) to be able to start using some unique features of WP43 before a finished product was ready.
As other features were needed by Jaco (to do real work) additional enhancements were also added into C43, some of which which were slated to be included in WP43. C43 has several developers working with Jaco as well. Website is here: https://classic43.com/Classic43/Home.html Lots of information here, read up. (you and lots of other folks...) --Bob Prosperi |

Is there a simulator of the latest C43 for Windows like there is for WP43?
If there is I can’t seem to find binaries for it. |
