Preferred Model for Quick Number Crunching

HP 30b (I use RPN mode) is convenient for most small number crunching problems, display is quite readable from a variety of angles, keys are good, 6 stat models. For more sophisticated problems, my HP 42S is a go to. Less friendly as far as viewing angles go to read the display. Keys are great. Both units are perfect size for a shirt pocket. For graphing, I like the CASIO fx-CG 50, love that one can have each grid line on a graph labeled. A larger device, but works for a pants pocket. The CASIO fx-991-CW packs a lot into a small package, uses 17-21 significant digits in its calculations, requires using menus a bit more than the 42S. Shirt pocket size, but is prone to fall out of a shirt pocket, better in a pants pocket.

Now that they’re all smartphone-based, grabbing any model is a couple steps, I’m grabbing whatever my fingers click on.

Even though I'm actually more likely to reach for my 15c/CE now, I still voted for the 11c plus the 48g/50g.
My reasoning:

• If I'm reaching for the 15c, I'm actually only using functions that are also present on the 11c. (i.e. the 11c would work just as well but my CE has nice super-CLICKY keys, LOL)
• If I need to work with complex numbers or matrices, I'm reaching for one of the following:
  • HP-48s if that's all I need to do. (It's the nicest looking of the 48/49/50 series IMHO.)
  • HP-48g if I also need some of my library goodies. (It's the one I've most customized.)
  • HP-50g if I need a library that was written for it but not the 48-series. (And it may eventually supplant the 48g simply because it can do more. Those rubber keys and the [Enter] key placement though, bleah.)

Cray, Inc. is a subsidiary of Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Seymour Cray was the chief designer of the 6xxx and Cyber series of supercomputers at Control Data, before he left to start Cray Corp. The thing I first learned to program on was Ga. Tech's Cyber 74 mainframe (in Fortran-IV !!) when I was just shy of 13 years old. So the Frontier can trace its lineage straight back to my first computer.

They say that baby ducklings bond to the first thing they see upon hatching from the egg, and from then on, that's their "Mother."

I wonder if it works the same way for Programmers?

As I don‘t need more than the 4 basic calculations at work I use the Monroe 620 nixie tube calculatorwith one memory on my desk

There is always an HP 200LX open on my home desk, so that's probably the most commonly used.

In my backpack there is an HP 17B II and it gets plenty of use too. My habit has been to always log my gasoline purchases and calculate the fuel efficiency as miles per gallon, so this would be its most common type of calculations.

I really enjoy my 28c/s. I didn’t pick other because I feel like these models are under appreciated. I use my physical machines and there is wonderful iOS emulator as well.

I am really enjoying my HP Prime too. I use both the physical and emulator.
