Are battery terminal solder onto the battery?
I recently acquired a vintage 386 PC that has a barrel type of CMOS battery mounted on the motherboard. The battery needs to be replaced. I'd like to leave as much of the existing mounts that are connected to the battery in place on the motherboard because the replacement I will be using has a different prong configuration (two on one end, and one on the other end), and it would make replacing easier. The original battery has one prong at each end.
Are these mounts soldered to the battery? If so, can I use a SMD heat gun to slowly melt the solder and remove the battery from the mount while leaving the mount still soldered to the motherboard? Here's a photo of the intended replacement battery for reference only on the mounts (I will not be removing the mounts from the new battery). Thank you! Joe |
