You can get tons of information by googling that question, for the purposes of the discussion here we are talking in particular of joining two pieces of metal by applying very localized heat and pressure, enough to melt both pieces together in little spots without increasing the temperature of the rest of the part. For soldering you use much lower temperature to melt a third material that then sticks to your parts, but you need to heat them up to higher temperature than if you weld them. Welding provides very strong joints that can be done very quickly, I have seen it used for all battery packs, even done it myself to recell the pack in my IL printer Hope that helps, Juan |
