Totally agreed!
Typically the problems generated when new guys picks up little parts of a well designed system (they thinks they can do it better) and they are puts a "time-bomb" inside the code.
My simple rule: never touch HP's after 48xx - and no problem.
(Just look at that f#&@&# R->P / P->R conversion on HP35s, I will never recover from that shock...)
