That's an interesting hypothesis. If you have a card to spare, perhaps you can clip one that is currently reading OK and see if it still reads correctly?

If so, as Bernhard notes, perhaps it's an issue of "old recording" vs. "new recording" rather than "clipped" vs. "not clipped."
