Right. 1/3 is then displayed as 3,33333333333 E–1.

That's the way it works, yes.

There are two simple rules for ALL n:
1. If the number fits the display completely and a switch to scientific notation is not required, show it in FIX mode.
2. If the number does not fit the display AND it is less than 10–n, the display switches to SCI (or ENG if ENGOVR is set).

If I get you right, you want the SCI/ENG switch for ANY number that is below a certain threshold, e.g. below 0,01. So that for instance 0,00012345 is displayed as 1,2345 E–4 (or 123,45 E–6) although it would fit the display in FIX mode. I do not know how this could be accomplished.
