That explains why the unit I received from him had a 2017 serial number.

Thanks

Bought my second one a couple years ago when they were blowing them out for $39 on Amazon. I should have bought a cargo container of them.

Quote:$39 on Amazon.
Amazing price. Perhaps wait for the TI-89 Titanium to go the same way (it is only a matter of time, a few years max) - there will always be a healthy market for this device as well.

PS. Like the username.

Hello folks,

a short search shows, you can get a new one for approxiamatly the double former price, so it is not to late to buy one.

But some offers are three or even four times of the former price, that might be today to expensive, but may be not in five or ten years...

The good news is 42s prices have been dropping since the DM42 came out. Maybe once the DM48/50 comes out the 50g prices will drop too!

Not my fight because I'd never be interested in that RPL model even if given one for free but just out of curiosity I looked in eBay Spain and immediately found used ones in working condition for prices such as 45 €, 67 €, ... New ones are listed for about twice that.

So I don't understand. Are those prices considered incredibly high for that calc ?

I just bought a blue version in excellent condition complete with box and manuals for 30€ on the Spanish classifieds app. You can buy them all day long for 30-50€ here.

Maybe we could start a reselling program...

In Germany a used 50g costs about 100-150 €. Three years ago it was around 60 €.

Out of curiosity, how long does a 50g usually last? Assuming it is well taken care of and used lightly on a daily basis?

The 50g was introduced in 2006, and under the conditions that you noted, I've never heard of one 'wearing out' or even becoming troublesome. So far. Depending on the user's skin chemistry, the painted key labels can wear somewhat, but this is true for all painted labels, and injected keys are just not being made by anyone anymore (for a $100 consumer product).

Of course if treated poorly, etc. some units have ultimately needed replacement (there are posts here, on HP's support site, etc.) and a few cases of SD card slot failure, but it seems they were quite well made, correcting the poor build quality of the models preceding it.

I can report my experience, which confirms Bob's opinion.
My 50g is on my desk since 2007, used daily. No wear on keys, it works perfectly .
Only the vinyl pouch self destroyed, but I replaced with a semi-rigid case.
I recently bought a spare unit which seems built better than my old one.
It came with canvas pouch.

IMHO, the build quality of 50g is good and not far from the latest 48gx (black screen, painted keys).

I have three for sale: One never opened, one opened but not used, one Quasimodo, if someone is interested.
"Never opened" really(!) never opened, therefore one battery packed togethet with the calculator is dead, the calculator, manuals, case is not affected.

Send PM and I can send photos.

RE: Where to buy *NEW* HP50G ?
Anybody here that's tired of their [gently used, very good condition] 50g? Want to sell it to me?

Or does anyone know where a person in the US can buy a new one without spending a fortune (now in the waning days of 2022)??

Daily drivers: 15c, 32sII, 35s, 41cx, 48g, WP 34s/31s. Favorite: 16c.
Latest: 15ce, 48s, 50g. Gateway drug: 28s found in yard sale ~2009.

RE: Where to buy *NEW* HP50G ?
I have three for sale, at least two of them I want to sell.
I'm located in Hungary, the shipping to US is high, but not depends on me.
I have options for the pricing, just read the video description (jump to YouTube).
If I want to buy something like this calculator, maybe I buy it from a HPMuseum member, who since 20+ years here, take and share a video of the stuff and communicate before business.
It is your decision, you can buy from John Doe who never used HP and do not know what it is, or buy from someone who is an engineer, frequent HP user and he has 30+ HPs in his collection and do not want became a zillionaire on that one selling.
You find it costly? Maybe. Google and compare our GDPs, average income and decide.
