I can't see the point in destructively tearing down a working (rare) item like that ??

It's something he appears to enjoy. I've seen him take a hammer to multimeters. I guess it's just another electronic gizmo to him.

Most of the things he tears down get put back together. It's a bit tricky for the SL-800 though. All I can say is he teared one apart so you don't have to!
