RE: [34S v3.3, 31S v1.2] Manuals
(04-28-2014 09:17 AM)walter b Wrote:  Counting the orders received after I published pricing, we've reached ...
  • 5 orders for the WP 31S spiral bound manual (Sanjeev, Jonathan, Pauli, Silvain, and Bob) and
  • 9 orders for the WP 34S v3.3 spiral bound manual (Pauli, Jonathan, Silvain, Bob, Didier, Barry, Colin, Emmanuel, and supernumero).
All these were placed on condition that the volume prices are reached. Please note we're not there yet. So what can I do?
  1. Taking out the inter-chapter pictures of the WP 31S manual, I'll end with 142 pages A5*. This will allow offering this full color spiral bound manual for just 20€ or 28US$ (or should I say 27.99$ ? Wink ) provided there's a minimum of 20 fixed orders (costs explode for smaller numbers, sorry). Each book will have a solid cardbord laminated front and back (154mm x 214mm**, each 5/64 Imperial British thumbs thick).
  2. For the WP 34S v3.3 manual, those pictures were taken out already. Thus the price of this 372-page full color spiral bound manual will stay at 28€ or 39US$ (or 38.99$ Wink ) provided there's a minimum of 20 fixed orders (for reasons as above). Page format, front and back will look like above.
  3. Shipping is worldwide for the costs I mentioned (5€ or 7US$ for 0.5kg, 8,50€ or 12US$ for 1kg). Air mail, of course. Within Germany, however, shipping will be only 3€ even for both manuals shipped together in one padded envelope.
  4. Since a paperback edition of the WP 34S v3.3 manual will come out significantly more expensive than a spiral bound, I'll focus on spiral bound for the time being. Why should I let someone overseas print something less useful for more money?
  5. Paperback WP 31S manual would just cost 2US$ less than spiral bound. I think I'll focus on spiral bound here, too - well worth the difference IMHO.
Come on folks! We can't proceed before the minimum numbers are reached.

d:-)

Edit:
* A5 is 148mm x 210mm (see ISO 216), corresponding approximately to 5 53/64 x 8 17/64 Imperial British thumbs.
** This corresponds approximately to 6 1/16 x 8 27/64 Imperial British thumbs (if that helps anybody).

+1 WP 31S spiral bound
+1 WP 34S spiral bound

grazie Walter Smile

RE: [34S v3.3, 31S v1.2] Manuals
Hi,
I am new to this forum but I will take a spiral bound copy of the wp34s. Spiral bound are the way HP used to make their manuals.

Walter,

I will commit to purchasing one of each manual regardless of the format. I actually prefer the existing "paperback" format.

RE: [34S v3.3, 31S v1.2] Manuals
Suggestion:

I think bundling some (3?) sets of Keyboard overlays with each manual would accomplish several goals here. Many (most?) folks requiring one of these also wants the other. Putting them together makes the purchase more attractive and simpler, and I suspect adding overlay kits will not dramatically increase the overall cost.

Of course, Eric will continue to sell overlay kits separately as well for those users who are committed to creating a 34S or 31S for the least. money. possible.

There are certainly potential issues here (which I'm confidant will be explained in extreme detail) such as folks wanting a manual only (so this could require multiple SKUs), the extra time to ship kits to the manual shipper (Walter?), etc.

The are a few reasons for bunding several sets, among them:
  • We've seen in the surveys that many folks own multiple machines (34S now, perhaps 31S soon)
  • One user may purchase for several associates
  • Extras are handy due to wear or "oops" when installing

Just a suggestion to see how folks feel about the idea...

Let the feedback begin.

RE: [34S v3.3, 31S v1.2] Manuals
I'll take a 34S manual.

For the 31S, it seems a bit early in the lifecycle for me to commit to the cost and space of a paper version, but I'd gladly throw you a few dollars for a digital format I can read on my iPad (PDF, kindle, epub, etc).

Updated subtotal of orders
Meanwhile, we've reached ...
  • 10 orders for the WP 31S spiral bound manual (Sanjeev, Jonathan, Pauli, Silvain, and Bob; Günter, Jake, Hubert, Aurelio, and Mark H.) and
  • 21 orders for the WP 34S v3.3 spiral bound manual (Pauli, Jonathan, Silvain, Bob, Didier, Barry, Colin, Emmanuel, and supernumero; Günter, Jake, Hubert, Jose, David, James, Aurelio, Mark J., Mark H, Denis, Meindert, and spinkham).
All these were placed on condition that the volume prices are reached. That will be the case for the 34S. Thanks so far. Smile
Please note we're not there yet for the 31S - well, Eric will come out with his overlays soon so there's still hope. Wink

What's going to happen next? There's still some internal discussion about a bit of housekeeping in the WP 34S. When this is finished, I'll update the documentation files. Then I'll contact the printer and order the amount of manuals corresponding to the order status as reached then. I can't afford ordering many more for reasons explained earlier - so whoever else wants a manual please order now - the next print job will require twenty subscribents again.

d:-)

Edited to add one word for sake of clarity.

Walter: Do we have to do anything more than what we have done already in this forum to reserve our copy?
Mine was a "Spiral Bound WP-34S Manual" I didn't see any other info about how to "Order Now", so I am assuming that the existing requests in this forum are enough to reserve a copy unless I hear otherwise.

Thanks Walter, Sincerely, Barry Mead

You're right, Barry. I should have written: 'whoever else wants a manual please order now'. I corrected that sentence.

Ouch! I really hope sending the payment won't add much to the estimated cost. +1 vote for PayPal.

RE: [34S v3.3, 31S v1.2] Manuals
Hello!
I am new to this forum (and to the WP34S, too).
I would like to add my order for a WP34S manual (spiral bonded, if I understand correctly), and possibly pay it by Paypal.
Shipment would be in Italy, hope that costs indicated for USA would be enough also for Italy.
BTW, if an electronic copy is available (PDF, epub) I really appreciate to have it at a reasonable price, too - beyond the paper version.

Thanks!

Riccardo

Updated subtotal of orders - Eric, how about the overlays for the WP 31S?
Progress is a snail, as Günter Grass wrote. Meanwhile, we've reached ...
  • 26 orders for the WP 34S v3.3 spiral bound manual (Pauli, Jonathan, Silvain, Bob, Didier, Barry, Colin, Emmanuel, and supernumero; Günter, Jake, Hubert, Jose, David, James, Aurelio, Mark J., Mark H, Denis, Meindert, and spinkham; Riccardo, Andreas, Anders, David, and Scott) and
  • 10 orders for the WP 31S spiral bound manual (Sanjeev, Jonathan, Pauli, Silvain, and Bob; Günter, Jake, Hubert, Aurelio, and Mark H.)
Thanks for the WP 34S orders. Smile That's sufficient for printing a batch for the price stated earlier.

Please note we're still not there for the 31S. I haven't heard anything of Eric recently so I've no idea about his progress in overlays. Eric?? Alas, we won't get an affordable spiral bound manual with less than 20 subscribents.

The files are ready to be printed now, so I will contact the printer for the WP 34S manual soon. Any payments will then be possible via PayPal (or - within the European Union - via direct bank transfer). Don't pay anything yet! I'll contact you in time.

Whoever else wants a spiral bound manual (34S and/or 31S) please order now - the next print job will require a minimum of twenty subscribents again.

d:-)
