Ok you guys got me going with the USB connection to the PC. Thanks for the consult.

The software comes with many, many pgms to download.

Do you have any favorites? Please let me know.

Just getting back the the 48 after years of neglect Smile

1 MB HP RAM card & Bringslid Software Finance Card installed. Lithium AAA batteries throughout, as you would expect.

Have not got SpeedUI installed yet, but hope to soon, to get the 48 acting like a 50g. Also, I agree with Ray, Filer48 is an awesome file manager, easily the best I've used on any calculator. I wish there was a 50g version.

Also, be sure to check out Joe Horn's 11 Goodies Disks, available at hpcalc.org, particularly if you're interested in programming, tools, SysRPL stuff, etc. LOTS of stuff there.

Hopefully SpeedUI doesn't create a 50g feeling. It will feel like an HP 48GX, but with handbrake released.

AFAIK the initial UI design of Filer48 was inspired by the filer of the 49g. One internal design goal was to make port access as fast as possible, or even faster;-)

The original "Access Pointer" mechanics to access objects in covered ports of the HP 48GX is nice, but way too slow compared to direct memory access.
Amongst other areas, this is where Filer48 shows that it can be made faster. Much faster!
