Sharp PC-2500 Users Guide
Does anyone have a copy of the Users Guide for the Sharp PC-2500, preferably in English? If one doesn't exist in English. I can take other languages. Thanks.

Thanks, however, I already have this document. Just to clarify, I am looking for the User Manual as I am interested in the printer/interface commands as well as trying to figure out how the spreadsheet/contact programs in the device works. If an English manual does not exist, I may go ahead and try to create one, like I did with the G850VS. However, I need a User Manual as a starting point. Would prefer PDF, however, I can work with a physical manual. Thanks.

Legend (my google research) has it that it "had the same characteristics" as the PC-1350, which was superseded by the PC-1360, with which they supposedly supplied the 1350 book for.
So it may be that the printer commands at least might work the same, (albeit the 2500 had 4 colour printing), the sharp 4 colour printer of the era was for the PC-1500 so the commands for that may well be the same.
(Actually the two printers apparently use the same pens.)

These manuals are also available in English (along with many others) here:

1350 Svc Manual
1350 Sharp Literature
1360 Svc Manual
2500 Svc Manual

and the 1360 User Manual here (so there was actually a 1360 manual):

RE: Sharp PC=2500 Users Guide
I just checked my collection. I have a PC-1350 and to my surprise, it also included an English manual. If there is interest, I can scan it for everyone.

As far as explorations, not much progress. Most of the graphical commands in the PC-1360 manual do not work on the PC-2500. I looked at the CE-150 plotter instructions and they also do not appear to work. Need to do some detailed digging into this system to see how to operate. It may be that the instructions could be similar to the CE-515/6/7P plotters. However, I don't hold out much hope in finding a user manual for those devices.

Since the 1360 English User Manual is already available, instead of scanning the full 1350 manual, it may be sufficient to only scan those portions that are different from the 1360. The 1350 and 1360 are very similar models, so I would not expect large differences. Just an idea to save time/effort scanning.

It's not a manual but this list of peeks and pokes for various Sharp machines, including the 2500 might be of use to you:

Sharp PC-2500 Users Guide
Managed to get my hands on a copy of the Users Guide for the Sharp PC-2500 in French. Link is here:

Sharp PC-2500 manual

Working on an English translation of the manual, however, I though it would be appropriate to let those who have a PC-2500 have some documentation on how to use it, regardless of the language. Hope others find this useful. Please let me know if there are any problems.

Jack

Edit: noticed that the manual was altered by the OCR. Rescanned manual without OCR. Can download from original link above.

Thanks Jack, a rare find indeed. I worked at Sharp for 10 years and never saw a PC-2500 manual! Very nice of you to share this, and even more so to translate! Absolutely no rush of course, but I look forward to seeing it when done.

The PC-1360 looks similar to the PC-1350, but internally they are different machines. The PC-1360 has several additional BASIC instructions. Some PC-1350 BASIC instructions will not work on the PC-1350. The memory layout is different and the expansion cards are different.

I have a German version of the PC-1350 manual (link below). I also have a German System Handbuch (System Handbook) for the PC-1350 and PC-2500 that describes in detail the hardware internals, assembly language, and useful pokes and system calls of both the PC-1350 and PC-2500. I am not sure if I can publicly share a PDF of the system handbook (copyright by Günter Holtkötter) but PM me if you are interested.

A link to a PDF copy of the German manual of the PC-1350:

Two software links for the PC-1350 and PC-2500:

Interesting. Two of the engineers that wrote the f/w for those told me (I worked at Sharp '88-'00) they were 'quite similar', though what you're describing sounds more like these were later versions of quite different earlier model lines. At one point, there was an effort to try to consolidate the many (sometimes quite different) Pocket Computer Product lines into fewer 'families' of models. Perhaps calling these the 1350 and 1360 was an attempt to do that? And I suppose from the perspective of the guys that built them, they probably are 'quite similar' inside, though notably different to you and me.

Thanks for sharing these links.

I don't know what the rationale was for SHARP to use the 1350 vs. 1360 numbering other than observing that the machines look quite similar. My experience is that most of the 1360 software does not run on the 1350 (and PC-2500), except for some relatively trivial basic programs.

Two more links:

https://www.simon-lehmayr.de

This site covers the PC-1350, PC-1360, PC-1403, PC-1475, and PC-E500. The PC-1360 software posted does not run on the PC-1350 (I tried, but I have not tested all programs.)

http://destroyedlolo.info/sharp/PC-1350_U3/

The ULM3 machine code library posted there extends the functionality of the 1360 by adding 40 new functions to Basic. They suggest it runs on the PC-1350 but that is not true, unfortunately.

Cheers!

This is not a trivial program by far and it runs perfectly on both the 1350 and 1360:

SHARP Program VA160 - PC-1350 An Othello Game Playing Program

Matter of fact, I wrote it using a PC-1350 almost two decades ago but then keyed it in and ran it on a PC-1360 when writing this article last year. It ran flawlessly.

Great game! Thanks for sharing.

Porting PC-1350 Basic programs to PC-1360 is possible, but what I said is that I did not always find it easy or possible to run PC-1360 programs on the PC-1350.

The PC-1360 user manual is not accurate to use with the PC-1350, to answer the original question about the PC-2500 lacking a manual (the PC-2500 is a PC-1350 with printer, larger keyboard, and a few more features). The PC-1360 includes quite a few more Basic functions (e.g. ERASE), some Basic functions accept additional parameters (e.g. BEEP), the PC-1360 has different poke hacks and different system CALL locations in ROM (e.g. CALL &120A: X=PEEK&6F57), and INKEY$ returns values for all keys while the PC-1350 does not.

Thanks for sharing! I have been trying to translate the French manual to English. However, between real life and the pandemic (I work in healthcare), I have not made much progress with the translation.
