Blackened LCD screen
Hello, after sometime stored at home I opened my HP 95 LX and found the screen as it is shown in the photograph: still working but blackened in the center and that making it unusable. Please, does anybody know why this has happened, the reason for it and whether there is a solution, appart from changing the screen? I would very much appreciate any comment. Thank you!

RE: Blackened LCD screen
Hi,

If it helps, I have solved this issue in a couple of Pioneer series calculators (Hp22s). It is caused by the silvered film behind the screen. (I do not know exactly why) It is not (in my case) caused by the display itself. Relatively easy to solve if you can dismantle the calculator and have access to the back side of the display (it is not necessary to remove it apart.. I do not recommend it).

I do not know if it can be solved in this (big) screen and HP model.

I try to find the thread in the Forum and come back.

Update: look here: https://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-12652.html

Regards

Ignacio

Hello lmmt61

Youtube clip: https://youtu.be/qIqZ4-OVtt8

This guy fixed the Blacked LCD screen problem on Casio fx-3800P

After I completely watch on each steps then I try my own with the

Casio fc-100 Business Consultant that also got the same Blacked LCD screen problem.

I highly recommend to try with other cheap calculators or digital clocks first

for practice. I did successfully did it on a Weather Digital Clock.

My next project will be the HP OmniGo 100 the LCD now totally Blacked this one
will be hard, but I'll try it carefully.

Hint: On the back size of the LCD glass I use regular reflexive aluminum foil tape not perfect but good enough.

Very useful, Gamo. I shall follow the steps and see how it Works.

I still don't know why this has happened. I thought LCD screens could last for decades.

Well, the 95LX is about 25 years old. Time flies...
