New G2 Firmware 20200116 - Problems - FIXED w/ 20200121
There is new firmware and associated Connectivity and Virtual Calculator software available at hpcalc.org.

WARNING - I upgraded my new Prime and lost the touch screen; couldn't select anything via the screen - - the keyboard was active for all things Keyboard but that was all.

Did the Diagnostic Reset and did the checkouts and all was well - reverted back to Firmware 20181016 and regained complete functionality.

I have a HP Beta software set 20191120 that I will check tomorrow sometime.

More as it comes.

Anyone else lost their touch screen ability? I have not updated my calculator yet.

RE: New G2 Firmware 20200116 - Problems
I have updated G1's and G2, and so far so good. Touch screen's are active in all the devices I have updated.

The G1's woke up in RPN mode, which were previously in Algebraic mode, (before the firmware update).

It's posted on hpcalc.org, down near the bottom of the page, under "Newest Additions, (January 16th, 2020)."

My HP Connectivity Kit is indicating no updates available.
Is this another time that we have to do everything manually again?

I downloaded the firmware and put the files is Connectivity folder under Firmware in the sub-folder marked PrimeG2.

The connectivity kit looks there for the updates.

Note: Ensure that you also DL the companion Connectivity Kit for the Firmware update (there is also a Virtual Calculator update too).

I gave this a try and with the latest Mac OS (10.15.2) I get an error dialog and the message that the application cannot be opened because the OS cannot check its validity (or something like that).

I guess I'll have to wait for the instructions that Tim will hopefully post here.

I get that also - but if you go to the Privacy and Security selection in the MacOS System Preferences, you can tell the OS to go ahead and load the program anyway. This is caused by the certificate settings in the program not being the most current. I get it with both the Connectivity and Virtual programs.

Now to my issue - I installed the 20200116 firmware again and got the same problem - No Touch Screen response. NOTE: In all subsequent comments please assume that I have installed the proper companion Connectivity Kit and Virtual Calculator that goes with each firmware version.

Now - I reinstalled the 20181016 firmware and regained the Touch Screen response.

Next: I installed an HP Beta software that is available on hpcalc.org - 20191120 and it is functioning normally in all respects.

Tentative conclusions: 1. I seem to know what I am doing in installing the firmware as I have banged back and forth between various versions a number of times and all worked (or not) appropriately.

2. Firmware version 20181016 and Beta 20191120 work for me and Version 20200116 does not.

3. Damnifino why the latest firmware doesn't work - I am open to any thoughts and experiments any of you may suggest. Given the ability to recover all functionality with two versions - I am not too concerned about "bricking" my machine if any suggestion goes south. Thanks for any help.

Just to clarify an important point:

My successful updates were all via win10. It's possible that the MacOS version may be at issue here.

Excellent Point - Thank you.

Given that the firmware is the same actual file for both of us - The problem would probably have to be in the MacOS version os the Connectivity Kit.

The update works on G1, but I have an issue with the HP PRIME on iPhone 6 plus, it does not restore the backup in full. It looks like the restore crashes on iOS before fully restoring.

OK - I just love modern technology:

I installed the 20200116 firmware using the MacOS Connectivity Kit from 20191120 - The firmware installed and the calculator booted back up but the Touch Screen was non-responsive. Soooo... - it looks like that eliminates the Connectivity Kit as a possible source of the problem.

I do NOT know how / why the actual firmware file (that is used for both Win and Mac) would not work with a MacOS installation - not enough data or knowledge on my part.

RE: New G2 Firmware 20200116 - Problems
Like others here. I've just successfully updated a Rev. A, 2x Rev. C and a Rev. D (G2) with the 20200116 firmware. The touch screen works on all of them.

I think we now need to wait for someone else who has a G2 and uses a Mac to find out if they, too, are having problems (Sylvain?)

There are only 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Download the Firmware again and re-flash

OK - did that - For the record that was my fourth download of the 20200116 G2 Firmware file.

"Re-installed" the companion 20200116 Connectivity Kit and flashed the (fourth dl) firmware.

Same results - no Touch Screen response - Keyboard active and responsive.

Going back to the 20191120 Beta which works for me.

Edited to Add: ReFlashed to 20191120 Beta and got back full functionality.

RE: New G2 Firmware 20200116 - Problems
Same problem here... Prime G2 with unresponsive touchscreen. I downloaded the upgrade file from the ftp server "ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/Prime/" (making sure it was G2 firmware version). My conn kit is also up to date.

Edit: All working again after rollback to previous firmware.

RE: New G2 Firmware 20200116 - Problems
Very interesting Jet...

There is some code to support a new touch IC driver (old one is going away - note this has nothing to do with the screen/resolution/display, just the little chip that does the x/y detection for touches so nobody get excited about anything...), but we have never seen any problem on any devices with that.

There is something particular about your unit and need to figure out what it might be!

Please send me a note (either forum PM, or email calchelp at hp.com) with your hardware revision number, serial number, any mods/tweaks you may have done, etc. Basically anything that might help me track down what might be different about your unit!

Detection is handled by some 0 ohm resistors connecting pads that have never been connected before that were previously left open for future hardware revision changes. So frankly feeling a bit confused.... :?

TW

Although I work for HP, the views and opinions I post here are my own.
