Yes, the keyboard layout on the Prime version could be greatly improved. It really can't be final until full touch menus are in place, so we can "increase" the number of keys available.
Make a list of all suggestions so I can put them in place. So far I switched to the Prime for daily use and it takes quite a bit of getting used to, versus the more straightforward keyboard of the 50g. Also if you feel there needs to be more key associations for the 50g, let's start a post with a list, that gets updated so we can implement them all. |

For reference, here is the Prime layout I have (as it stands currently):

Just FYI - I updated the first post in my overlay thread to add the option for the HP 40gs newRPL overlay. This one is still untested from a color-match standpoint, but functionally it should work fine.
It is based on the 39gs overlay, but with the colors changed to that of the 50g since the 40gs is a black (or at least dark gray) color scheme. It also includes all of the alpha characters on the background overlay since they don't have them on the keytops on this model. Thanks! |

RE: newRPL - Updated to build 1510 [official build remains at 1487]
I tried sideloading http://hpgcc3.org/downloads/newrpl-android.apk on my Pixel 7a, but my Pixel says the APK is not compatible with my phone.
What gives? Help! |

I just tested on my android 10 tablet and it worked fine. Could it be that your phone is 64 bit architecture and has removed 32 bit support or something? The apk is compiled as an armv7 architecture for maximum compatibility. Not sure what you mean by side loading, all you do is click on the downloaded file to install it. That's not side loading, is using the front door ) You may need to change your settings to allow installing apps from unknown sources, but that's it. Is your phone not an arm phone? Perhaps an armv8 with no backwards compatibility? That's strange... but confirmed: https://m.slashdot.org/story/405951 |

Different versions of Android have differing options to prevent/allow such installation so it's impossible to provide specific steps, but as you say this more than likely is required. --Bob Prosperi |

Otherwise the error message would have been a different one. |

The new apk has both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. I guess phones would use whichever they prefer. I haven't been able to test it so I'd appreciate if you guys let me know if this worked or not. Fingers crossed. |

I grabbed the linked APK earlier in the thread and it works on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, but the scaling is a bit weird - looks like it is horizontally stretched, but it works fine.

RE: newRPL - Updated to build 1510 [official build remains at 1487]
The files on the sourceforge site don't appear to be updated (they still show dates around 2020 or 2021, and I assumed that since Claudio updated the APK it should be newly dated. I wasn't able to find the links for the APK when I browsed the hpgcc3.org site, so I just tried the linked apk from this thread - and it happened to be the 50g style.

I was commenting more because of the distortion (stretch) of the graphic horizontally. The prime-style link I just tried actually seems less distorted. I think this is mainly because android tablets don't always translate apps for the bigger screen size very well. |

A few clarifications I should've done from the start (my apologies for the confusion): a) I only updated UNOFFICIAL versions from the first post in this thread. Official build remains at 1487 (from sourceforge). b) I did not update the prime-style app because it's not in a buildable state right now, I added touch support to the actual firmware and the app needs the simulated touch support to build, which it hasn't been implemented. Regarding the display chopping the right bits, I've seen it happen only with a Samsung Edge phone, which had a "virtual" size on the screen that included the curved part and fooled the Qt library into resizing the screen too big. I don't know why it would do the same on the Pixel7, though. I can't do much other than leaving a margin, but you'll have a margin on the left side, wasting some space. I also tested on my tablet and yes, the aspect ratio of a tablet is not ideal for the calculator. I guess I could limit the stretch ratio and leave a margin too. I'll see if I can find a few minutes this weekend to get that done. |
