Wanted: PIK chip for Topcat

Hi all,

I have a HP91 with defective PIK chip (1820-1680). I'm looking for a spare part or a defective HP91/92/97 for parts.

You will need a PIK chip from the HP-91. There are only 64 characters available for the PIK chip to print so it is not possible to cater for all calculator models with the one chip. They have a ROM which is programmed by the factory to have different sets of print characters for the different calculator models.

An example, the HP-97 has lowercase (a) whereas the HP-91 has (theta) at the same character ROM location.

They have different part numbers too.

thanks for this clarification.
That's of course no good news, since the HP91 is quite rare with respect to a HP97.

Achim,

I think I can help you out. The PIK in my second 97 was flaky so some time ago I bought the logic board for a 91 never thinking that the PIK would be different and indeed when I installed it basic printing seemed to work so I didn't think anything more of it until reading Tony's post above so if you want the PIK send me a PM, for that matter you can have the rest of the 91 board if you wish there is no ACT on it any more but has all the other components.
